About Miriam

My Story

Hi, I’m Miriam Provenzano, author of Beyond Vulvodynia.

I developed vulvodynia in my 20s while training to become a psychologist. Much of my research turned toward chronic pain, first as a search for answers to heal myself, and later to help others.

When I first developed this condition, I felt completely lost. Nobody could explain what was happening, and most of what I found only left me more confused. Like many women, I received fragmented explanations that never quite fit. Trying to make sense of it all led me to explore how emotions, the nervous system, and physiology interact — an interest that gradually shaped the direction of my professional work.

My Work

I’m a licensed therapist and university lecturer with advanced training in trauma, chronic pain, and integrative health.

My approach brings together mind–body psychology, nervous system regulation, and evidence-based methods to address both emotional and physical aspects of healing.
Through my practice and writing, I support women who want more than “it’s all in your head” or “just live with it.”

My goal is to make complex information understandable and usefu l— resources that are both scientifically grounded and deeply human.

«The nervous system doesn’t speak in words. It speaks in sensations, and we need to learn how to listen»

Need a Speaker for Your Upcoming Event?

I speak and teach about vulvodynia, pain, and the mind–body connection with the same purpose that led me to write Beyond Vulvodynia: to bring clarity, compassion, and conversation to a topic that deserves far more understanding.

Over the years, I’ve shared this work with health professionals, universities, and communities of women who are ready to move beyond confusion and fear toward knowledge and self-trust.

My talks are an invitation to see vulvodynia as something that can be understood, cared for, and talked about with openness.

If your event, classroom, or organization wants to explore how psychology, physiology, and lived experience intersect in women’s pain, I’d love to connect.
